Beef goes belly-up for ‘Pink Slime’
Ground beef processor AFA foods filed for bankruptcy on Monday and says it plans to sell off it’s assets. The reason: people found out what is in their ground beef.
The meat processing companies have felt the sting of concerned consumers after the use of what the industry called ‘finely textured beef’ filler. Which is also known as ammonia-treated beef filler, or ‘pink slime’.
Food Advocates have wanted a ban on pink slime where the companies that use the product say it is perfectly safe. McDonalds, Burger King and Taco Bell have said they have stopped buying ground beef made with ‘pink slime’, yet pink slime meat is served to millions of school children each day in school lunches.
It’s not like I care what kids eat, I don’t like kids, but if something is so bad for you that McDonalds and Taco Bell refuse to use it; I’d pay attention.
Anyone else want to go to Carvel?
It wasn’t even the ‘evil liberal media’ that coined the term ‘Pink Slime’ it was actually first written in an email by a USDA microbiologist after a tour of a meat processing plant in 2002. After that celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver, championed the cause against ‘pink slime’ in meat.
Troublemaker… Remember what happened
to Oprah after she messed with the beef!
AFA has said that they hope the transition is orderly and smooth for their remaining employees and customers. But not as smooth as ‘Pink Slime’
